How Invoice Discounting Helps Your Business' Cash Flow

Invoice discounting helps to identify trade-financing deal that is right for you. It does not require any security and offers lower rates as compared to a loan or an overdraft. Since an external agency takes care of the total transaction it reduces the administration, book keeping costs and the most important benefit of the total deal is that the business owner does not need to chase the debtors. This helps the small or any medium business owner to concentrate more on the business.

This method of invoice discounting provides immediate cash flow, which helps in generating working capital for the business. It also helps in providing salary for the employees, paying to the suppliers, obtain discount from suppliers for payments in cash. An important part of invoice discounting is that it solves the cash crunch problems for the business owners. An invoice details the goods or services that had been rendered to a company. It is a legal document that can be used to prove the incurred debt. Invoice discounting can help up generate cash up to the 90% of the invoice value. Invoice discounting is carried out at which rate depends totally upon the discounting agency or the factor.

There are various benefits of invoice discounting. A small business owner can reduce bad debts on his business. It provides professional collections and invoice processing. Invoice discounting offers credit terms to customers as well as meet increasing sales demands. It helps in taking advantage of early payment discounts and advantages of volume discounts. It helps in stopping early payment discounts to customers as well. The business owner whether small or medium does not need to give up equity or incur any debt on the business. Invoice discounting helps clients build credit for themselves as well the business. Invoice discounting is an easy and fast, leverage off the customer's credit. It does not require any personal guarantees or detailed management reports. It helps in getting the invoices paid faster and the business owner can concentrate on growth of the business. Invoice discounting is par any geographical limits so it can be done internationally as well. It helps in early detection and warning of customer service problems. It is also an effective tool for credit screening and credit monitoring.

Invoice discounting also helps to build a credit line from the invoice to the customers for the goods or services rendered to them. It helps to draw cash and manage the business. It offers the flexibility to pay only for the amount used and as much needed. Invoice discounting requires less collateral and also reduces paperwork. It also has a faster turnaround time and grows with the business. With the increased credit line it helps the business owner to avail any loans from the banks. Invoice discounting also free the credit limit and helps the business to avoid the debt trap.

Invoice discounting is an important credit worthy tool. When a business owner offers credit to the customer he becomes a bank himself. This is because when the business owner offers credit to the customer it offers payment terms to the customer. This is what exactly a bank also does. But here the businessman suffers the loss unlike a bank because the business owner loses the interest for the amount of time he has to wait. With the help of invoice discounting the business owner gets paid immediately and rest is paid when the actual goods are delivered.

How Is Your Cash Flow And Factoring

How did your company do this month with the cash flow? Why not let the question go; how has your cash flow been this year?

Did you sweat it out worrying you might not make payroll, get that vendor off your back, pay that tax bill that was due and it was a lot more than you expected?

For those of you that have a line of credit, did you get close to maxing out your line and have concerns that your line of credit is no longer an adequate facility.

For those of you that use your personal money or credit cards to fund your cash flow, did you have moments you thought about getting a loan or a line of credit from the bank because the pressure is mounting, but you still are unable to get the banks to lend to the money.

For those of you that have been sailing on smooth waters lately but you can see the approaching storm over the horizon and you dread approaching your bank “again” for an increase because they complained the last time because your growth is heavily centered around accounts receivables and they are getting uncomfortable.

Well, you may say that the checks seem to always come in the mail just in time to get you over the hump. I say, just keep throwing the dice, the numbers will not come up one day if you keep pushing your luck!

I could obviously continue with the examples but you get the point. The fact of the matter is that Factoring could be your solution for these and most scenarios when it comes to inadequate cash flow. Get informed about this form of finance and spread the word to your business associates. It could be what they are looking for also!

Can You Predict Your Cash Flow?

If you provide terms for your products or services to your customers, it can be a challenge to predict how your cash flow will be from day to day. You are actually providing financing for your customers. I hope you understand that is what takes place, you are being the bank.

Terms are a necessity in today's business environment and to land some accounts, it is an absolute. Even though the agreed upon terms are 30 to 60 days or more, it does not always come in on time, however an inconsistent and unstable cash flow does not have to exist.

If you are struggling with inconsistent cash flow, you need to look into factoring. It is a very powerful form of finance that will allow you to predict your cash flow, and grow your company at a rapid pace. You do this by selling your credit worthy accounts receivable to a factoring company. This allows you to get an immediate injection of cash. The factoring company will wait for your customers to pay the invoices while you use your money to meet your cash flow demands.

Factoring is one of the oldest forms of commercial finance, however it remains unknown or misunderstood in the commercial finance market place. Factoring is also known as accounts receivable financing and can be the perfect solution for start ups as well as seasoned and rapidly growing companies.

A start up company can qualify for factoring due to the fact that the invoice is the asset being used. As long as the invoice is to a credit worthy company the invoice then becomes an asset that can be sold to a factoring company for immediate cash. The factor waits on the customer to pay the invoice instead of you waiting on the payment. It is as if you are turning all of your term invoices into COD without taking away your terms to the customer.

Thanks for reading.

How Buying Invoices Works

If you have a problem with cash flow, you might consider finding a company that engages in buying invoices to get you on the right track again. Often, through no fault of their own, small and large companies find themselves in a bind because they don't have enough cash to meet debt payments, to pay employees, or to invest in needed materials and manpower in order to bid on lucrative, time-sensitive contracts. In these cases and some others, companies buying invoices from you may be able to help. Buying invoices is also called factoring. A company, or factor, engages in buying invoices from another company at a discount, taking on the responsibility of collecting payments due. Through this process, the company selling the invoice gets immediate cash flow, and the company buying invoices stands to make a profit. Most invoices are factored at fees starting at around 1.67% of the total principle for each ten days left in the payment due terms. For instance, if you have invoices that come due in thirty days, the factoring company would buy them from you at a 5% discount, and thus make a 5% profit for a thirty-day investment. Fees are predicated on the creditworthiness of your debtor, not you; thus, a company with a very good record of paying its debts on time and otherwise appearing sound would get you the best terms. If you have a company without strong credit that owes you money, you may find their invoices factored at rates of more like 8% to 10%. Generally, companies that buy invoices will limit the total amount of invoices the hold from you to no more than $100,000, but have no minimum amount. If you have an invoice in the amount of $200,000, this does not mean you will not be able to find a factoring company that can help you. Instead, the company buying invoices may advance your company a hundred thousand dollars, but when they collect the debt, the will then pay to you the entire advanced amount you qualify for. In other words, you can factor a portion of an invoice if you don't need to factor the whole thing. When companies are buying invoices, you can count on at least three parties being involved. The first is the seller of the invoice which is your company. The second is the payor of the invoice which is the company you have done business with that owes you money. The third is the broker/funder buying invoices. This third party may be a separate broker and funder, or it may be one company or individual acting as both. The broker would arrange the transaction, and facilitate your receipt of the funds advanced in a timely manner. The funder is the party actually buying invoices; they would use a broker to find appropriate invoices to buy. Brokers who arrange the transaction but who don't fund the transaction generally earn a commission on the transaction. Typically, the funder buying invoices is the chief risk taker in the transaction, and receives the largest share of your factoring fee. The broker arranging the transaction would receive around ten percent of the fee charged for buying invoices. When you've found a company buying invoices to work with, it's generally a good idea to maintain the relationship with them. If you find yourself needing cash flow in the future, these companies are much more willing to work with those they've funded successfully in the past, and may even offer you more favorable terms. Companies buying invoices are generally those with large cash on hand totals, like insurance companies and federally-insured banks. You may also be able to find companies buying invoices overseas, particularly in resource-rich companies like those in the Middle East.

Factoring Your Way To Liquidity

There are various types of factoring available. These factoring can be in any industry viz. account receivable factoring, asset based lending, business loans, construction factoring, credit card receivables factoring, distributors factoring, equipment, hard money loans, invoice factoring, manufacturing, medical factoring, purchase order financing, real estate lending, staffing, systems, technology, trucking, verdict funding, wholesalers, etc.

Various agencies provide all these types of factoring. Usually their turnaround time is 24 hours. They provide exclusive online and paperless factoring solutions to the small and medium sized businesses. These agencies either provide stated rates for factoring of invoices of a particular amount or they offer a free invoice-factoring quote. Thereafter these agencies approach the factoring companies that purchase the creditworthy accounts receivable at a small discount and convert the invoices in to cash.

With the help of these factoring agencies cash is received in mere 24 hours and no debt is created. Since there is no debt created it increases your credit worthiness which can be used to avail a loan. This also represents a healthy balance sheet and strong financial position. These agencies also offer higher advance rates which ultimately results in factoring lesser invoices but generating all the required money.

Moreover the factors handle the collection in professional manner thus reduces the collection costs. They also help in processing of invoices by generating invoices online. This further means increased paperless work. As a result the turnaround time is much shorter than any other means.

Invoice factoring is also known as accounts receivable financing. This practice helps in solving the immediate cash flow problems for small businesses with immediate infusion of money. They also provide a credit facility to small business owners with complete flexibility. This also provides the working capital to the small or medium business owners. This factoring helps in generating working capital without the need of constant renegotiations. Since there is a considerable increase in the working capital it leads to more sales and expansion of business.

A practice of factoring helps small business owners not only to solve their cash problems but also help in increasing sales. Small business owners can also concentrate on their businesses rather than chasing their customers for payments and cash. Factoring practice helps all kinds of small to medium business owners whether they are a small trucking company or any manufacturers.

As a result of invoice factoring, it not only reduces accounting costs but also helps business owners and manufacturers in increased productivity. This practice if factoring the invoices keeps the businessmen from other time consuming jobs like collection, administration, book-keeping, looking up additional capital or warding off creditors.

Finally the best part of factoring is that the business ownership remains unchanged as in case of loan, etc. Since there is no loss of business equity, the ownership percentages remain unchanged.

Factoring Can Be An Ideal Solution For Start-Up And/Or Growing Businesses

Factoring is one of the oldest methods of business financing in existence. The history of factoring dates back to the days of moneylenders in the middle ages. Factoring has been the working capital facility of choice in Europe for centuries. It has taken on a new life in recent years as a financing method for many businesses in the United States.

Factoring is the sale of accounts receivable, as opposed to borrowing against them as you would do with a bank line of credit. By selling your invoices, you generate immediate cash flow instead of having to wait for your customers to pay.

Companies often find themselves in the frustrating position of having sales opportunities which they cannot accept because of the lack of financing to support those sales. Banks normally cannot provide adequate funding for growth due to internal credit policies and external regulatory restraints. Even if a business can qualify, the bank line of credit may be totally inadequate to support the company’s sales growth opportunity.

Primary advantages of factoring versus a bank line of credit:

• Factoring facilities are much easier to implement compared to acquiring a bank line of credit.

• Factors have more flexibility with regard to documentation and credit issues than banks.

• Factoring can be initiated and terminated very efficiently. When making a first-time purchase of invoices from a business, factors typically take one to two weeks to check the credit ratings of the customers and communicate a discount price.

• The business receives payment in cash from the factoring company after delivery and invoicing a customer. Immediate invoice payment eliminates the sale-to-collection business cycle; thus allowing businesses caught in a cash crunch to obtain fast relief. Turnaround on the sale of receivables is only about 24 hours.

• Factoring is a sale of assets (invoices), not a loan. For businesses that either cannot qualify for traditional debt financing or that simply do not want to incur more debt; factoring is good alternative means of funding working capital.

• Factors purchase all rights in the invoices and the seller has secondary liability for any invoices not collected.

The factors undertake debt collection, but the business remains ultimately responsible to repay any portion of the cash price attributable to an account that went uncollected. Factoring can be an effective solution to funding a short term gap in cash flow for the start-up or rapidly growing business.

Accounts Receivable Financing, Tax Write Off And What Does It Cost?

Banks won't lend money to a business seeking to acquire larger contracts because its not viewed as an asset. So if you are a small start up company, funding for expansion may be hard to obtain. Accounts Receivable Financing could be the key to funding for a start up with desires to bid on large Government (or Corporate) contracts.

So what is Accounts Receivable Financing? It is the selling of your accounts receivable invoices for cash versus waiting 30-60 or 90 days to be paid by your customer. Accounts Receivable Financing is also know as Factoring.

Securing the services of an Accounts Receivable Financing Company will allow a small company to bid on almost any contract within reason. A small company would know in advance that the funds needed to produce goods or provide services are available once they win the contract. In fact, some A/R Companies will advise you on which companies they will Factor Invoices from and which to avoid! (Federal Government contracts are considered "gold" however not all Factoring companies can handle Government Receivables)

One of the major concerns for most small business owners is how much does Accounts Receivable Financing cost? Between 1 to 5% generally speaking. Since Accounts Receivable Financing rates depend on the credit-worthiness of your customers, your average invoice, average payment cycle, and factoring volume, its hard to predetermine the exact cost of the money. However, you should remember, whatever the cost is: Its TAX DEDUCTIBLE and this is important. This means that the cost to factor is offset by IRS.

Not all Factoring companies are created equally (you can't tell that by looking at their web pages). A Cash Flow Consultant or an Accounts Receivable Broker can stir you in the right direction. There are issues such as: process to acquire funding, will the Accounts Receivable Financial company (factoring) company handle your collections, will they provide the funds through a credit card or will they wire the monies into your business checking account, will the Accounts Receivable Financial company factor with recourse or without recourse? (Meaning will they take responsibility for the debt or will you the client take ultimate responsibility? The rates are different)

Sometimes an A/R Broker has a choice, but not all the time. For instances, there are not that many companies that provide Accounts Receivable Financing for health care or construction. It all depends on what type of business you have and what your needs are.
